The Funnest Thing You Will Ever Do With Your Money!
Written By: Nate Williams
We at PFG want to wish you, your spouse, your family, and your team a Merry Christmas!
As financial advisors, much of our work revolves around helping our clients decide what to do with their money. Other than paying overhead bills, there are only three options: save it (including investing and paying off debt), spend it, or give it away.
In pursuit of a fulfilled life, many people focus on how they’ll spend their money—what they want to buy, where they want to go, and the lifestyle they want to create. These are important and valid considerations.
But one of the most rewarding things you can do with your money is to give it away.
Have you ever wondered why Santa Claus is so happy? Why he’s always laughing, “Ho, ho, ho!”? He’s learned the truth that giving is more fun than getting!
Giving has a way of lifting not only the receiver but the giver as well. It connects us to others, eases burdens, and allows us to use our resources to make a meaningful difference in the world.
Here are just a few things some of our clients have done to “give extravagantly”:
- One client gives away as much as he spends each month.
- Many travel at their own expense to provide dental treatment to underserved communities in third-world countries.
- A group of clients recently pooled their resources to pay off over $100,000 of debt for a young widow who lost her husband to cancer.
- One client recently gave an assistant $10,000 to help her out of a tough spot. Not a bonus, or commission, or loan against future income—just a gift.
- One client ensures each employee receives a 10% contribution to their retirement plan, far exceeding the required amount.
- Another client is paying for his older sister, who became a teenage mother and missed out on higher education, to go back to school for a nursing degree.
Hearing these stories is inspiring, and a reminder of the joy and fulfillment that can come from giving. It’s not just about the financial impact but the connection, care, and hope it fosters.
So, as you consider your own financial goals, don’t overlook the power of giving. Whether it’s a small gesture or a significant gift, giving might just become one of the most meaningful—and funnest—things you do with your money.
