Thank you! If I apply for unemployment, will that affect my credit or my ability to get a mortgage. Asking for a friend who currently has a house under construction.

Clif, that’s a tough question. Possibly. It will depend on the bank who is loaning the money. Couple of thoughts:
-hopefully someone who is currently on unemployment is not borrowing for a house right now
-once he’s back at work and making income again, he should be able to show the bank what happened and show that now he is on more solid financial footing.

For more clarification, being on unemployment has nothing to do with credit, so this will not affect his credit score. The issue for your friend is income verification, not credit (assuming he’s current on all payments). I hope that helps.
